In an interview with TIME, he said, \u201cThis might bite me in the butt for saying it, but it sort of bothers me. I like making movies that are original and unique to themselves. To remake it, it\u2019s not very interesting to me personally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shooting down the possibility of such a film and citing\u00a0it might be difficult to make a \u201clive-action rat cute,\u201d he said, \u201cSo much of what we create only works because of the rules of the (animated) world. So if you have a human walk into a house that floats, your mind goes, \u2018Wait a second. Hold on. Houses are super heavy. How are balloons lifting the house?\u2019 But if you have a cartoon guy and he stands there in the house, you go, \u2018Okay, I\u2019ll buy it.\u2019 The worlds that we\u2019ve built just don\u2019t translate very easily.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pixar\u2019s next release is the much-anticipated\u00a0Inside Out 2<\/i>. Docter said, \u201cIf this doesn\u2019t do well at the theatre, I think it just means we\u2019re going to have to think even more radically about how we run our business.\u201d\u00a0The studio\u2019s\u00a0last two releases, Lightyear <\/i>and Elemental<\/i>, underperformed at the box office.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cPart of our strategy is to try to balance our output with more sequels. It\u2019s hard. Everybody says, \u2018Why don\u2019t they do more original stuff?\u2019 And then when we do, people don\u2019t see it because they\u2019re not familiar with it. With sequels, people think, \u2018Oh, I\u2019ve seen that. I know that I like it.\u2019 Sequels are very valuable that way,\u201d said\u00a0Docter who also added, \u201cIt\u2019s sort of cynical to say people want to see stuff they know. But I think even with original stuff, that\u2019s what we\u2019re trying to do too. We\u2019re trying to find something that people feel like, \u2018Oh yeah, I\u2019ve been through that.
