{"id":16629,"date":"2024-09-27T06:34:42","date_gmt":"2024-09-27T06:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/khabarok.com\/business\/16629\/"},"modified":"2024-09-27T06:34:42","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T06:34:42","slug":"gst-council-sets-up-gom-on-compensation-cess-panel-to-submit-report-by-dec-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/khabarok.com\/?p=16629","title":{"rendered":"GST Council sets up GoM on compensation cess, panel to submit report by Dec 31"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"content-body-68689067\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p>The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has set up a 10-member GoM, headed by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, to decide on the future of compensation cess.<\/p>\n<p>The Group of Ministers (GoM), which includes members from Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, will submit its report to the Council by December 31.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Terms of Reference of the GoM is to make taxation proposal to replace compensation cess after its abolition,&#8221; the GST Council Secretariat said in an office memorandum.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"article-bullet-list\">\n<li>\nAlso read: <b>GoM on GST rate rejig remained inconclusive, next meeting on Oct 19<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the GST regime, compensation cess is levied on luxury, sin and demerit goods over and above the 28 per cent tax. The proceeds from the cess, which was originally planned for five years after GST rollout or till June 2022, was used to compensate states for GST revenue loss.<\/p>\n<p>Since the government had borrowed \u20b92.69 lakh crore in fiscals 2021 and 2022 to make good states&#8217;
