18th Lok Sabha inaugural session dates announced

18th Lok Sabha First Session Date: The first session of the newly-formed 18th Lok Sabha – the lower house of Parliament also known as the House of the People – will take place from June 2 to July 3, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju wrote on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. The announcement comes days after the release of the list of ministers in the Narendra Modi 3.0 government.

Rijiju – who recently took charge as the Minister of Parlamentary Affairs – also said that the 264th session of the Rajya Sabha – the upper house of Parliament – will begin on June 27 and conclude on July 3.

This week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office for a third straight term after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returned to power in the 2024 general elections following a six-weeks-long polling exercise that took place from April 19 to June 1.

In the latest developments concerning the Narendra Modi 3.0 government, the allocation of ministerial portfolios revealed familiar faces taking charge of key ministries. Notably, Nirmala Sitharaman resumed her position as Finance Minister, while Nitin Gadkari was reinstated to oversee the Road Transport and Highways Ministry.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar retained his role as the Minister of External Affairs from the previous Cabinet. Additionally, Ranath Singh resumed his duties as Defence Minister, and Ashwini Vaishnaw was appointed as the Railways Minister.
